On this Valentine’s day, with the winds billowing around our hill and buffeting the trees, my heart has flown with the herring gulls as they play and glide and swoop and drift with the airborne currents above our house. Yes there are tiny woodland and winged romances occurring everywhere if you begin to look, but today I have been captivated by the gulls romancing the sky, elevating my heart to a place where a measureless love dwells, for my Valentine, and beyond.
Seagulls soar their love song to the sky
Wing tips tracing their blustery sonnet along the clouds.
They are free from earth bound cares
Their hearts liberated to stretch from rooftop to horizon
And be held by the circling winds;
As much a part of the sky
As a part of the bird.
Our hearts yearn to flit and fold
As these boundless wings cradled by the breeze,
And find the same refuge
In that infinite and fearless plain
Where the gull accepts the weather
And the storm
And the rain.
