As we approach Christmas; this season of joy – and obligations, demands, costs, hassle, pressure, tensions and potential conflict – I wonder how much we allow ourselves to ask for what we actually, authentically want? This one is for those of you on the unforgiving treadmill, those feeling oppressed or burnt out or simply unappreciated. Those of you who haven’t had time or space to breathe free from your daily cares, and for those who are suffering from overwhelm. Whoever you are, I invite you to lay down your burdens, if only for a moment, and come home to the beautiful, powerful and extraordinary being you truly are.
What would it be like
To pet the beaten bear of your mind,
This panther stalking grimly
At the bars of you?
What would it be like
To let your dormouse soul
Curl in a ball and snooze
Until you are ready to wake?
What would it be like
To let your tiny wren of a heart
Flit among kind branches
And sings its most beautiful song?
What would it be like
To let the sighs of the storms inside
Burst into the grey, oppressed air
And be heard by the Earth?
What would it be like
To let your animal body
Feel its feet in the soft grass
And its head in the breeze?
You are not your sorrows
Not your grief or the burdens of your guilt.
You are not an absence
Or an overwhelm or lost hope.
You are like an evolution of souls,
Love kindled in your bones.
Tell me, what would it be like
To set you free?
